Teacher Training Program

As part of our mission, we offer a Teacher Training Program for all who are interested in becoming an teacher of the Dark Horse Pilates Method. This training comes directly from Romana to Janice and is disseminated through Dark Horse Pilates Certified, Affiliate and Designated Teacher (DT) as well as Mentors.

The journey to become a DHP teacher begins with training with one of our Affiliate or Certified Teachers, DT's or Mentors. You will not only learn the exercises required to enter the program, but you will develop the feel of the Powerhouse and Box that are the foundation of the work. You will realize Pilates is not just exercise, but rather, a path toward mastery of the body. Pilates exercises empowered with fundamental science, develops anatomically correct skeletal alignment, creates a deep and powerful core abdominal muscle, overcomes the dominant Iliopsoas and trains correct gluteal muscles. In other words, you will learn how to have a true Pilates Powerhouse that is real and explainable. You will feel the Powerhouse in your own body that creates strength and stretch with control.

Once your DT/Mentor deems you are ready you will enter the Teacher Training Program as an Intern. The Program is approximately a year long once you enter and the requirements are as follows:

Course I

Course 1

This 5-day course teaches you the DHP Concepts of training the body; fundamentals of anatomy; kinesiology and biomechanics; how to see and evaluate a body; how to teach with safety and how to apply what concepts to each exercise at the Level I.

After attending the DHP Course I, you will continue work with your DT/Mentor to prepare you for the Level I Evaluation.

You will be required to spend a minimum of 15 hours weekly in your home studio with your DT/Mentor.
You will attend free weekly meetings/workouts with your DT/Mentor.
You will observe your DT/Mentor teaching.
You will assist in any way necessary within the studio so it runs as smooth as possible.
You will continue weekly lessons with DT/Mentor to continue on your path toward mastery.
You will practice teaching on your “Guinea Pigs” and other interns as is possible.

Course I Evaluation

When your DT/Mentor deems you prepared you will have an Evaluation by the Master Teacher.

Evaluation involves:

Performing Course I exercises for Master Teacher.
Taking a written test on Level I Concepts and Biomechanics/Kinesiology.
Teaching a real client a session
Teaching a Level I Mat Class

If you complete a successful evaluation, you will proceed to working toward the DHP Course II. If not, The Master Teacher will work with you and your DT/ Mentor to strengthen any weaknesses in the findings of your evaluation.

Course II

Course II

This 4 day workshop will solidify all the exercises and concepts of Course I. In addition, you will learn how to apply Level II concepts to Level I exercises to understand how to deepen the foundational work. You will learn how to challenge your client's education, and how to teach Level II exercises with safety and intention.

After completing Course II, you will work with your DT/Mentor to prepare you for the Level II Evaluation.

You will continue the requirement of spending a minimum of 15 hours weekly with your DT/Mentor.
You will assist in any way necessary within the studio so it runs as smooth as possible.
You will continue weekly lessons with DT/Mentor and deepen your work for your journey toward mastery.
You will now be able to take on studio clients under DT/Mentor supervision and be paid at a reduced rate.
You will follow all DT/Mentor’s suggestions to become a better teacher.
You will observe your DT/Mentor teaching.
You will attend free weekly meetings/workouts with your DT/Mentor.

Course II Evaluation

When your DT/Mentor deems you prepared you will be tested by the Master Teacher.

Testing involves:

Teaching a real client a Level II session.
Teaching a Level II Mat Class

The Master Teacher will either accredit you as Dark Horse Pilates Certified Teacher or advise you to remain in your Internship for more training. When your DT/Mentor deems you have fulfilled the extra training you will receive your Dark Horse Pilates Certified Teacher Certificate.

Fees for Dark Horse Pilates Teacher Training Program

Registration: $300

Internship Fee:

$500 for every 6 months

Course 1 Fee: $2000

Course 1 Evaluation Fee: $300

Course 2 Fee: $2000

Course 2 Evaluation Fee: $300
