Pilates Master Instructor

Janice began her study with Romana Kryzanowska in 1990 in NYC as part of The Pilates Studio® with Sean Gallagher and Steve Giordano.  At that point the path to certification was not clear, but Janice persisted in training with Romana because her belief that the Pilates Method (as it was called then) was life changing.  While serving as chair of the dance department of Stephens College in Columbia, MO, Janice opened In Line Studio, a pilates studio and integrated Pilates into the dance major curriculum.  She hosted Romana at her studio in 1992 and 1993.  In 1993 Romana asked her and Juanita Lopez to take over her and Sari Mejia’s teaching duties at Drago’s Gym in NYC for the summer.  When Romana came back, she certified both Janice and Juanita.

Janice continued her study with Romana and in 1999 Janice was asked by Romana to be one of her hand-picked “Teacher of Teachers” along with Lori Coleman Brown, which was publicly announced at the Romana’s Pilates Convention in Chicago in 2000.   From 2003 – 2016 she opened and owned The Pilates Center in Champaign, IL.  From 2000 until 2024, Janice taught Basic and Intermediate seminars for Gallagher's The Pilates Studio and then the new company, Romana’s Pilates where her title became Level 2 Master Instructor along with other notables: Michael Levy, Roxanne Huang, and Lori Coleman Brown.

Janice presented at Romana’s Pilates Conference’s held in New York, Atlantic City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles (2 conferences), Fort Lauderdale (3 conferences), Orlando and New Orleans, with topics ranging from Pilates for Dancers, Pilates for Athletes, Long, Strong Muscles- Do we know what that means? The Iliopsoas, The Powerhouse, What Romana taught Me, Clientology, and Romana's favorite- Squeeze the Juice Out.....among others.

Her final swan song was presenting the teachers she was mentoring in an advanced reformer at the Romana’s Pilates International Conference celebrating Romana’s 100th birthday.

Janice left Romana’s Pilates International in 2024 to create Dark Horse Pilates.
